We source as much as possible from local businesses. For example, lumber, insulation, roofing and siding are all purchased from local vendors.
ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used building materials, furniture, home accessories, appliances and other goods to the public at a fraction of normal retail prices. ReStores are owned and operated by local affiliates, and proceeds are used to help fund local home construction.
Local Habitats operate independently and serve their communities, while Habitat International supports global operations and coordination. Local affiliates do have some requirements mandated by Habitat International that we must keep in order to be in good standing.
There's no set requirement for volunteers. You can help for a day, a weekend, or more depending on your availability. We're grateful for however much time you're willing to donate.
Definitely! We have volunteer roles for all skill levels—construction, cleaning, and more. In fact, helping build a Habitat house is a great way to gain new knowledge and skills.
There is no minimum age, however, you must be 16 to use any power tools. For younger volunteers we may require a parent or guardian be present to provide any needed supervision.
Yes. We are a recognized 501(c)(3) organization so donations to Habitat for Humanity are generally tax-deductible in the U.S. Please consult your accountant or other qualified professional to be certain for your specific situatioin.
Yes. Donations support construction materials, land, and operating costs needed to build homes. The board members and volunteers do not get paid.
Absolutely! In-kind donations like land, supplies, or skilled labor are greatly appreciated.
Yes. You can make a one-time donation, monthly donations, or annual donations through our Paypal account. You can use a credit card, debit card, or your own Paypal account.
Besides money and time—we accept most new building materials. Call us at 715-422-1925 to discuss what you have. There are also many household items that can be donated through our affiliation with the Mauston ReStore. They'll even come to you and pick up many different items. No. While credit is considered, we work with applicants with a range of credit histories. Typically Habitat home buyers have a less than perfect credit history.
Yes. Your income must fall within a range based on HUD guidelines for your area and family size. The current guidelines are posted on our application page.

Yes, individuals can apply. We serve people of all household sizes.
No. Habitat homeowners purchase their homes with an affordable no-interest mortgage and contribute sweat equity. Volunteer workers and donated or discounted materials and services further help to reduce the purchase cost to help break the cycle of generational poverty.
Habitat assigns home locations based on availability. Design choices may be limited but consider homeowner needs.
Yes, but conditions may apply. Some homes have resale restrictions to ensure continued affordability.
