We are dedicated to eliminating substandard housing locally through constructing, rehabilitating, and preserving homes; by advocating for fair and just housing policies; and by providing training and access to resources to help families improve their shelter conditions. Habitat for Humanity is a partnership, not a giveaway program. A Habitat homeowner family buys the houses that Habitat builds or renovates. The family is part of the building process and work alongside volunteers.
Habitat for Humanity was founded on the conviction that every man, woman, and child should have a simple, durable place to live in dignity and safety, and that decent shelter in decent communities should be a matter of conscience and action for all. The scope is tremendous: Habitat affiliates, us and many others, build houses in all 50 states and over 70 countries.

Founded in 1976 in Americus, Georgia, USA, Habitat for Humanity International today operates around the globe and has helped build, renovate, and repair houses that have helped over 46 million people worldwide.
Houses are sold to families at no profit—even the mortgage Habitat provides is a no-interest loan. Each local Habitat sets up a nondiscriminatory family selection process. The committee ensures that the homes are affordable based on each family's circumstances.
